Random Resets

I built my own computer, (details in sig) and for some reason when I am playing graphically intense games like Call Of Duty 2 and Half Life 2, it all of the sudden just blacks out. I have a feeling it could be my Graphics card because my monitor says "no signal detected" and all I hear is a small audio clip (from the game I am playing) repeating and repeating. Also, everything gets really hot.....

Is it my Graphics card?
My PSU?
Too Hot??

What are the temperatures of your components when you're playing these games? It could be a heat problem.

I don't think its a lack of power from your PSU or something like that.

Im not sure, After it reset, I checked the tempurature settings and it said that it was at 55*C. Im not expert, but I dont think that it is that hot....

Well, after restart it probably dorpped a decent amount. Are you able to check it during gameplay at all?

BTW is that the CPU or GPU temp?

It was the GPU temp...

Ill try checking it during gameplay, but it is kinda tedious.... Is there a program that shows all of the GPU and CPU tempuratures? I have speedfan, but I dont think that it shows the GPU temp. If it does, I dont know how to find it.

BTW, If I have the game minimized, will it still be rendering all of the graphics and therefore being as hot as it usually would??

Put up the Control Panel>Display>Settings>Advanced (I think...) screen with your graphics card temperature and minimize the game during gameplay, that should work.

Sorry to bring back an old thread, but I tried the Luna demo that nVidia offers and I look at my tempuratures. In only, id say, about 30sec, my temp already rose to about 73*C. Im convinced that it is a heat problem with my graphics card.
What is the best vga cooler that is compatible with a 7800GT?

Well you can check most of that using something like Speedfan (theres a link in Questions 101) Have it log the temps and voltages.

Also, if that doesnt narrow it down for you, run some memtest

After it reset, I checked the tempurature settings and it said that it was at 55*C.
That doesnt mean much, a reset can result in a 50C drop in temp.

Speedfan will show both. So will Rivatuner

No, it has to be active.

Arctic Cooling NVSilencer5 Rev3 ($29.99) is a decent cooler

In any case, 70C ballapark isnt anywhere near problemsome yet since the card doesnt throttle until about 115C or so.

UPDATE:
In rivatuner, I slowed down my clock speed to the lowest possible. After that, I played Call Of Duty 2 with no problems! I think Ill leave it like that untill I get a better vga cooler.

Thanks For The Help People!! :D:D

Will that cooler still allow me to SLI? I know that some are too big and it wont fit.
If you think you're having heat issues with just one 78GT now, it's not gonna have an eaiser time with SLI

In rivatuner, I slowed down my clock speed to the lowest possible.
The 3D clock or the 2D clock or both?
