Rate for gaming comp

game-debate.com is good if you are unsure if your computer has good enough specs to run different games. search a game, put in your specs and it will give an estimate on what settings you can run it on.

kk so just the mobo ?

You selections are perfectly fine and will run almost all games at high/med.

Don't listen to the Am3 crap. AMD cannot compete with intel right now in the enthusiast market. Your 1155 will take sandy / ivy bridge parts and to be honest right now, you don't need any more than that.

Thats a good setup, no point getting the 3570K unless you plan on using the better integrated GPU, since you're not, the 3470K is a good choice.

Don't forget the DVD drive if required, thermal paste, and consider a better 3rd party cooler such as the Hyper 212 EVO

Thermal paste wouldn't be needed since the cooler already has it on there. Yeah it's not the best but if you're not overclocking it does fine. A Hyper 212 and some Arctic Silver 5 would do wonders if you had an overclock ready chip.

If you want to overclock I would suggest the 3570K, since it's multiplier unlocked. If you're not bothered stick with the 3470.

1155 is still a great platform but if you can afford it you may as well buy into 1150 and Haswell now (Z87 motherboard and an i5 4xxx processor such as the 4670K). Why buy into the previous generation when the newest generation is available?

Otherwise it's great.

Ah ok, thanks for the correction.

No problem. :)

Yeah Intel usually only have one K series chip for each i5 and i7 generation. Only exceptions I can think of are the i7 2600K and 2700K and the i5 2500K and 2550K.

Never quite understood why AMD have the FX-8320 and FX-8350 which can both be overclocked, yet the 8350 is a little more expensive and the only difference is a higher stock speed.

But Intel aren't like that. :)

1155 is definitely better than AM3 and AM3+ and yeah 1155 isn't old at all, it got replaced less than a month ago.

But if he can, he may as well get 1150 and a Haswell chip.

and if a k series chip is purchased, a different board may be considered, i do not think that motherboard can overclock?

I would definitely advise going Z77 for the 3570K or Z87 for the 4670K for overclocking, yes.

The Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3H would be my recommendation for the 3570K and its successor, the GA-Z87X-UD3H, would be my recommendation for the 4670K.

Both great boards at an affordable price.

Don't see the point of spending money on those 'upgrades'. The 7970 wont be bottled by that CPU even at stock.

If he wants to overclock he'll want a better board. Obviously if he doesn't want to overclock, then get the 3470 and the B75 board.

And if he can afford it, he may as well just get a 4670K and a Z87 board now. If not then of course the 3570K and Z77 would be more than adequate.

Always good to buy the latest when building new systems. Obviously it's not worth the cost upgrading from a 3570K to a 4670K if you already own a 3570K.
