now i know some of the parts are from manufacturers with poor reliability, but was going for budget/long use of the computer (4+ years if the mobo and PSU hold out... which i doubt...)... and i stress that it's for my sister and will not be used for any types of "hard-core" applications...

mobo... one thing about this that's bad... first one was DOA... got second one on order
processor
RAM
HDD
optical
case... i realize that the PSU prolly won't hold out but i don't expect it to have to put up with many peripherals so hopefully i'll get a couple of years out of it...
display

all in all it cost my around $600...

any opinions

Change the mobo and CPU.

The mobo is Micro-ATX while the case is ATX, plus the mobo isn't that good.

The CPU is quite a bit stronger than what you'd expect from a computer which isn't gonna run any "hardcore applications". You could balance it all out better.

You might wanna think about swapping the mobo for a MSI, Gigabyte, Abit or ASUS mobo. And the CPU for a single core Athlon 64 or a Core 2 Duo 6300. And perhaps a 7600GS or GT. Or something along those lines.

If you want to do any types of gaming, I would drop the X2 down a few notches, and maybe sneek in a 7600GS, or alteast a 7300GS.

dont get the 7300GS if you do get a graphic card, that thing is horrible, you can get something way better for only a few more bucks.

What Praetor posted is way better.

Heehee even tho the X300SE is worse than the 7300GS? :P

But on a more serious note, this box doesnt seem to have a heavy (or any) emphasis on the video subsystem so its not an issue

Yes but the 7300GS is a waste of money and the X300SE is i believe alot cheaper, plus it fits in his budget
Perhaps, the 7300GS is only $20 costlier and does offer more performance, more future compatability and more everything. What was more of an issue was therest of the system :P Heehee

umm... yes... like i said... it's already ordered... why don't you guys read?

anyways... i bought that CPU because it'll last for a while (ie. she won't get tired of the performance for a long time...)... as for the mobo being Micro ATX, i really don't care what the case is, it fits just fine... i ain't getting dedicated video cause she won't exploit it to it's fullest potential, and if she needs something else, it'll get added later...

and plus i have a display, keyboard, mouse and speakers with my setup... which in my opinion makes it better than yours praetor... in sheer performance probably not... but it's things you have to factor in the final price...

EDIT: i appreciate your guys' opinions and i'm sorry if i sound snotty... it's in my personality...

True, i didnt notice the them (and also dont consider them apart of the computer ... because well ... they arent.)

Buying the X300 woulda been better too because he may want to upgrade later...and that 20 bucks makes a big difference between 2 models sometimes
