Heya guys,

so I went to microbytes to get a custom built PC and I was wondering if the specs vs price that the guy gave me are any good.

CPU: intel pen dual core E5200 2.5G/800/2M/s775
Hdrive: SATA2 320.0 W.D. 7200 16M WD3200AAKS
MB: s775 ASUS P5QL-PRO P43 PCIE
OS: win XP home
ram: KINSTON KVR 800MHZ DDR2 NO-ECC 4GB KIT
vid card: ASUS PCIE GF9 EN9500GT MAGIC 512M
monitor: LCD 22IN VIEWSONIC VA2226W 5MS 16:10

+ case keyboard power supply etc

and I`d pay 1000$ canadian which is around 800ish US.

What do you guys think and if possible what would you recommend with a 800-850$ budget :)

Thank you in advance

meh, could probably build the same pc for 600$, maybe even 550, an OS so 650+120 monitor=770$. If you want to spend the extra money go for it, but i would rather build, but its a fair price i guess, i mean the guy has to make a living.

ditto, save urself some $ and just build it yourself. =)

+2 Order the parts and build it yourself. It'll be easier and plus, if you have any questions you can come ask us :)
Personally, Don't go with XP Home...

That Dual Core E5200 is a decent processor, but why not go for a slower speed Quad Core? A 2.33Ghz Quad core should cost about $75 more than the much older Dual Core. As far as technology goes, the Dual core is just 2 processors stuck together. The Core 2 Duo is much better as it is 2 processors on the same waffer. You will notice a big difference with a core 2 duo or quad core.

The pentium dual core is a core 2 duo with less cache... same exact cpu otherwise. I think you are referring to the pentium D which was based upon the Prescott and Cedar Mill netburst(pentium 4) architecture, while the e5200 pentium dual core is based upon the 45nm Core 2 Duo architecture.

Are you talking $770 US or Canadian? Assuming your right, and it costs him $770 US to build himself, then really, the guy who quoted him ~$800 is being quite reasonable. $30 for labor costs and he's got piece of mind knowing it will work, and he doesn't have to worry about breaking components doing it himself. Unless of course he can, and wants to build himself.

Watch out with the 9500GT. There are two version of that card. One
sucks monkey balls. Make sure it is GDDR3 not DDR2.

CPU: Intel E5200 Dual Core - $90.00
MB: ASUS P5QL-PRO S775 - $110.00
RAM: OCZ 800mhz 4GB KIT - $60.00
GPU: ASUS EN9500GT DDR3 - $117.00
HDD: 320GB Seagate 3.0GB/s 32M 7200 - $60.00
OS: Windows XP Home OEM - $115.00
MTR: LG 22" LCD 8000:1 2MS 1680x1050 - $190.00
Case: ATX Mid-tower with 500W PSU - $50.00
KeyMouseCombo: Logitech USB 350 - $22.00

Subtotal: $814.15
Tax: x 1.13 (Ont)
Total: $920 CAD

One problem - you need Windows 64-Bit to use all 4 GB of memory. With 32-Bit
you can use a maximum of around 3 GB of memory. To use that extra 1 GB, you
will have to spend an extra $40 on OS. I suggest OCZ 3 x 1 GB DDR2 800mhz
5-5-5-15 (3 x $15 = $45), and stick with Win XP Home. 3 GB is tons of ram, and
this way you save more, instead of paying more.
