I got the Intel i7 920 2.67 GHz processor was wondering the rating of it. And i'm wondering if it's worth to overclock ? How much more could the processor speed upgrade to ?

Sounds like a solid deal. Since the process of OC the psu causes more work, would it cause certain area's of lifespan to drop ?

I overclocked my i7 to 4.1Ghz--most are able to overclock to near 4Ghz if you have good cooling--the stock Intel cooler isn't that great.

The lifespan of your processor will decrease, but you'll most likely upgrade before it dies as long as you keep the voltages and temperatures low.

Good to know the extra info. I've seen in posts that air isn't such a good heat conductor. And everything is stock until I've got a confirmed list of my upgrades, and decided if I'm going to install the parts myself.

I'm going to check the amount of room i've got with my chassis/ lots of background research in terms with an upgraded psu/ extra gc/ new cooler if I plan to OC it.

Would you recommend OC for gaming purposes?

The 920 should be fine for gaming purposes--you probably won't notice too much difference.

Well, I think it's just that water has a higher specific heat than air, so it'll get hotter slower. As for gaming, you *might* see a slight boost in FPS (Frames/Sec).

K i'm just spit balling here, since its possible to juice the processors speed up to a possible 4XXX GHz. Would this mean that its faster then other processors such as the i7 940 2.93 GHz or the i7 965 3.06 GHz not have the same performance and speed quality as mine. But as commen sence is for me I do believe that the 940 an 965 represent a higher level of processing units.

Yes--the 920 overclocked to 4xxx will be much faster than the 940 or 965. However, it's possible that you could overclock the 940 higher than the 920 (it has a higher multiplier, so you're less motherboard limited), and you'll definitely be able to overclock the 965 higher (it has an unlocked multiplier, so it's almost not motherboard limited).

The Core i7 940 Processor isn't worth it. The price is $211 more than a Core i7 920 Processor. The i7 940 runs at only 300 megahertz faster than the Core i7 920. A 300 megahertz higher clockspeed isn't worth $211 more in my mind.

If not, my real problem is with installing intel i7 920 box cooler on it. it dosen't fit. can someone tell me if i must buy some special part on it or which cpu cooler fit in?

What exactly is your problem - as in what does not fit.

If you have a core i7 920 CPU - you have a 1366 socket -

Unless Big Box PC mfr's use different boards than Buy it yourself boards - If you have an aftermarket CPU fan you need a 1366 mounting bracket with backplate to attach it to your motherboard. I don't know what Gateway uses or whether or not it would interfere with your Gateway case.

Here's a pic I found - online that I think is your board.
