Re-applying thermal paste

Hello my friends ;)

Okay im hoping sometime next week i can re-apply my thermal paste on my e6300 because i dont like my temps.

they are like 45c idle on both cores which i know that isnt realy that bad but i want it cooler.

Is this a good tut to follow or not in your opinion?

Arctic Silver 5 is still one of the best thermal pastes for the price around. Even compared to the higher prices pastes, AS5 is among the top thermal pastes.
 
^ AS-5 for the win. There are new compounds out now that claim to be better, but AS-5 def. has the instant brand recognization as being the best.

As far as the tutorial goes, it's all up to you. I personally never put the TP on the HSF itself, opting instead to use the CPU to spread/dab, then place the HSF on top. So long as you get cool temps though, it's all good.
 
Actually MX-2 is better than AS5 now, it also doesn't have the "burn in" period.

Heres how you need to apply to a C2D, be sure the line is in the correct direction. Do not spread it, let the heatsink do it. That will help prevent any possibility of air getting trapped.
 
I use a line down the middle of the CPU, Like Corey has posted...

I also use AS5, I haven't tried any others, but I think I may buy some Shin-Etsu.

i might go with the MX-2.

in that clip you see the guy put tape on his cpu then apply the thermal paste then remove the tape so it leaves a nice streight line.

do you recommend this?
 
Thats really unnecessary. With the tube, if you go slow you should be able to get a nice thin straight line. It doesn't have to be perfect, the heatsink will spread it out. ;)

You can use the same method, but for AMD its recommended as a "dot" about the size of a pea, or BB in the middle of the CPU. Do that, then seat the heatsink and let it do the spreading. ;)
 
Do Not Put Tape On Your Cpu!

Do not put tape on your CPU! That will leave very small amounts of gooey stuff from the tape! Your surface of the heatsink and proc should be cleaned with Arctic Silver "Surface cleaner" and "Surface purifier" weather you plan on using Arctic Silver or MX-2 or whatever. Wipe with a coffee filter and dry. Once that dries then use your thermal coumpound and attach your heatsink fan combo. The tape is an absolutly ridicolous idea! If you are into spending some time and wanna try it, "lapping" is a good idea for the heatsink. Some 2000 grain wet/dry sand paper. When I got my new cpu cooler I inspected the bottom and it had scratches in it, I had to learn how to lap it. After I was finished the surface was way better than the way Coolermaster sent it.

I had a bad temp problem when I finished my build. 47c Idle and 53 Load. I have done a few things and dropped them over 10c so far. 51c I would do some investigating also. The stock fans that came with my case are junk and I don't have good airflow right now. Got my new ones in the mail today and going to put them in tonight! Hopefully that will drop temps even more, maybe a few degrees. My Arctic silver 5 has only been on for a couple days, hoping to get even a few degrees lower in the next couple weeks.
I really think what helped with my temps is Lapping my heatsink base. At first I was nervous but tried it and it was really easy. The surface is now perfect!
Maybe I am just obsessed with low temps...I don't know?

thanks for the info scout.

damn im so annoyed now,i took off the AC7 Pro and cleaned it all again and re-applied the thermal paste but this time not so much thermal paste because i think i might have put too much on that time.

so i re-done it and booted up and guess what! Same damn tempratures as before :mad:

43c idle and 51 load.

i just cant make it cooler damn piece of crap.
