re-installing after rebuild....

I recently took apart my HP 533C and decided to put it back together to use as a third computer. I took the floppy drive, cd-rom, and dvd-rom out of it and put it in my other computer. But i have put in an old cd-rom that someone gave me and i have just that and the hard drive hooked up to the stock motherboard. When i go in i try to install windows xp professional off the disk. It reads the disk and then goes through that whole process. But then after it has to reboot and it goes to either a plain blank screen or it goes to a blank black screen that will show, "operating system not found." i have tried several times and i am not sure why exactly this is happening. I have tried moving the cables around to the different IDE slots. I have no clue anymore! Can someone please give me an idea of why is this happening. Thanks in advance for your help!

no because i have recently used this disk to install windows on my HP laptop and also my homemade desktop!

do u get to the windows xp screen where it tells u the features of the os while it installs like for 35 minutes? or is it only getting to the blue screen where it creates the partition?

i am just getting the first windows xp professional setup blue screen, where i make the partion and format, then it says i have to reboot, so i do and then when it comes back on it either goes to the blank black screen saying operating system not found or if the disk is still in the drive then it does the partion and format setup again!

ok, u do know that ur not supposed to press any key to boot from disk once it formats and partitions, right? im sure u knew this but just have to make sure.

check your boot configuration. maybe its trying to boot off something other than the hard drive.

at this point it should still be set to boot off of the cd. the os is not installed on the hd at this point.
