I need to re-install vista on my desktop because i had some messed up files on my HD. I am going to format it and do a complete re-installation of vista. I bought my copy and it says its good for one computer. Will I be able to use the same code that came with it and activate it with no problems?

thanks

If you bought a new full install disk you simply use the product key found on the sticker that comes with it. That's the specific product key for that disk seen there. The old key won't work on the new disk.

One thing to know is that if you were not planning to reformat the drive but simply reinstall Vista the first Windows directory along with the users folder is rolled up into a new Windows.old folder for saving files out of it before seeing that deleted from the drive.

i just ganked a key from a pc i bought my parents lol....they dont even know how to reinstall windows let alone activate it lol...i do it all for them....

When I reinstalled vista I had the fun of calling MicroHell so it would re activate. I told them that vista sucks and had to reinstall.

so if i do have a problem with activating it using the same key. just call them up and they should tell me what to do from there?

i just told them that i wanted to reformat because of viruses, and they were like okay heres your activation number have a good day
