Well, I wrote a thread about this like 2 weeks ago and i didnt get some good anwsers so il copy what i wrote here:
Hello, first of all, as u see, Im new here, so please show some respect and dont diss me for my knowledge (lol), secondairy i donte even know if the topic is right cuz i dont really know what the problem is...
So, this is my Computer:
Mother Board: Gigabyte ~~
Processor: AMD Athlon 64, 1850MHz
RAM: 1024mb RAM (DDR1[I think])
Graphic Card: ATI Radeon X1600Pro 256mb
(i think this will make it)
This is the Problem... I usually play some old and creapy games like CS, online games, and some others...But some days ago i was in the computer shop and bought PREY game, Installed it, launched it, and i was suprised that it detected my computer as good at that it autamticly put all requierments at highest. I started new game (thought it would lagg like s**t) but it didnt! It was as smooth as silk and i was SOOOO happy, I played about 15minutes, after and than in 1 second my screen goes all in squares and black lines so i hardly can see anything( sound and all buttons still working fine), i got paniced and press the windows button so i pressed alt+f4 and shot down the game, but the main screen after the game was closed was still all in squares and black lines, i restarted my computer and everything was alright...Afterwarrds i downloaded newest drivers for my graphic and launched the game... after 20 mins... the same thing.... and after and after... Now i thought it maybe my CPU got 2 hot but i downloaded everest and its only max 45 degrees.... Please help...I would like some full anwsers and please non "buy a new graph card"
Thanks, boldor.

Well, What of my friends told me (Theyr medium not advanced pc users) that my graphic card is burned, dont ask my why cuz i never oveclocked my comp... So please, If u know the reason of my problem and maybe the solution, WRITE... And if u DONT write what should i do IF my graph card was really burned (what graph card should i buy now, [PCI-E, win xp prof 32 bit]), Thanks in advantage! and sorry for my really bad english!

I don't think your graphic card burnt on you. I think it's more like the graphic card could not handle the game. It may run smooth in the beginning but as the game goes and the graphic is more intense, the card may not be able to handle it and hence the squares and black lines.

Try reducing the graphic quality for the game (low resolution, no AA, low graphic quality) to test whether you still see those squares and balck lines.

I don't think it's not so much as the graphic card not being able to handle it specs-wise. If that were the case the problems described would be seen as soon as you start the game not just all of a sudden in the middle. It sounds like your graphics card is over heating. Try taking the side off of your case and stick a box fan blowing into it. If it plays fine then over heating has to be the case.
