Re-setting HP printer

Anyone got any advice on re-setting a HP printer, I have refilled my colour cartridge but of course the printer now wont recognise it as full.
 
This is one of the problems you run into when refilling your own cartridges. You may save a few dollars but you'll have more headaches in the long run.

ive done many time but quit 15 yrs ago. told and explained and they overfilled and destroyed the printer. On the other hand i would not over fill. that is your nightmare. You will replace it.

some places like drug stores will refill for a small price. i just buy high capacity cartridges though. half is ok and safer.
 
Have you used refill cartridges on this printer before? Maybe you didn't fill it all the way? Some printers won't use refilled cartridges.
 
No its the first one I have filled, I dont think it has anything to do with the amount of ink in it. My understanding is that the printer remembers it as empty and just ignors it once refilled. There is also an electronic date stamp on the cartridge apparently, which also invalidates it after a set period of time, good old HP for ya.
 
Refilling is a very cheap way to replace ink and works just as good as a new cartridges, except the computer will always say its empty but will still work fine. I have been refilling cartridges for years and no problems.
 
???Not quite sure what you are telling me there.

My printer doesnt recognise the cartridge at all, the light in the 'ON' button just flashes and will not print anything.

I know its the cartridge as I borrowed someone elses and it worked straight away.

I have a D1460 and HP cartridges cost more than the printer. So it would be cheaper to throw it away even though its only printed a few hundred pages at the most.
 
TaKe the cartridge out and unplug the printer for a few minutes. Then plug it back in and reinsert the cartridge. Like I said before some printers don't like refilled cartridges.
 
That was the first thing I tried.

Done a search online and there are a number of different method covering up contacts and using multiple cartridges to confuse the memory. It all boils down to HP's deliberate attempts to stop you using anything but their overpriced cartridges. I dont think I will be buying anything from HP again.
