Read a drive after formatting

Hello, I formatted my hard drive. I realise now there is a Word document I need on it. I have got Windows XP Professional. Is there any way I can access that document. I cannot see it using Windows Explorer. Many thanks.

When you reformatted the drive you more or less wiped it clean. The only thing to do now is try a data recovery tool. Some are even free like Recuva found at http://www.recuva.com/

Besides tools like Acronis data recovery and Acive Undelete there's the NTFS Reader seen along with File Recovery and Restoration at http://free-backup.info/data-recovery-software.htm

Hopefully one of those will work for you. The Acronis and Active Undelete are retail softwares while a good search can turn up a number of free backup and recovery tools.

The key phrase for anything important however is frequent backups to removable or second partitions or drives in case of something like this comes up.
