Reading/converting atari st floppies to XP

I need to get some files off some atari st formatted floppy disks. How?

When I insert the disk to my mac pro (via usb floppy drive) nothing happens. When I do the same on my windows xp system the drive appears, but says the disk has to be formatted.

Anyone know of any software that will let me read the disk and copy the files off?

If it needs to be formatted, I dont think you can recover them..
But you can try something like Recuva:

It only wants to format it because it's not a file system windows can recognise - if I still had an atari the files would be seen fine.

What I need is a program that can read disks windows can't in it's standard form. I run macdrive so I can see my osx drives in windows, I need something like that for atari st formatted stuff, (whatever that format it)

You could try emulating with WMWare or MS Virtual PC an old operating system that you know that worked. But still, you need the setup disk(s) for that old OS.

Happens a lot, either the floppy disc is dead or the drive is dirty and/or dead.
