okay, i wanna know what you guys think, is an Ready 2go PC or Self Built PC better... imo it's self built.. but my dad want me to buy a ready PC, it's not okay for me.. all of them suck, when looking on the price tag!!!

now, gimme some though's why you think the one you choose (Read VS Self Built) is better... (i'll try to get my dad overtold that Self Built is better :P)

You get more bang for your buck if you build it yourself. The price vs performance ratio is far superior and you're not limited with the computer like you are with a cheap ready built PC.

It depends on how much knowledge you've got on PC and what is the use of PC.

If the user have no knowledge of how to fix the problem when something go wrongs or he just after a PC to do web surfing and downloading music / streaming video, etc.
Then go for pre-build PC.

However, if one go for pre-build, they should compare the price with self-build component to see if he/she being rip-off.

Usually with low budget PC like $400 - 500, you would find pre-build with good value.

That said if your dad wants a ready built one, you can always use a system configuration thingy site, depedning on where you are in the world there are loads of sites that accommodate custom pc's.

Granted it will cost you more than building it yourself, but its a good price to pay compared to oem machines that rarely are able to do more than internet browsing.

Sites like this, http://www.dinopc.com/shop/pc/pcs-gaming.asp?idcategory=94, let you configure your own pc but they build it.

As i said higher prices to self built but will keep your dad happy and better than buying your average, acer, dell etc.

For the average internet use, movie watching, etc, a pre-built is all right if you don't want to build a new one. I would just definitely reinstall windows to get rid of the crap they have on it for bloatware. For gaming, there are very few quality prebuilt ones out there. And they usually pack them with garbage PSUs.

This is a biased servey. Look at where you're posting it, Computer Forum. Most people (i would say 95%) here have some what of knowledge about computers and/or into gaming. Usually enthusiats at that. You think an enthusiast gamer with computer knowledge would dare buy a prebuilt computer?

For those who even think about buying a prebuilt needs to be smacked upside the head. BUT then again, what are you calling prebuilt? One such as HP, Acer, ect. (what i assume you're talking about) or one that you get built by a company such as Memory Express, newegg, TigerDirect (not companies like DELL who give you minimal selection of components).

it used to be that pre-built was good when they included a lot of software; considering the price of a Windows OS has remained about the same over the past two decades means that you get more bang for your buck building your own machine nowadays, even when you factor in the price of a Windows CD (and Office, if you have the need).

If you are a non-traditional user (i.e. Linux), then self-built is definitely the way to go because you don't want to pay for an OS you won't even use.

Unfortunately, self-building a laptop is considerably more difficult and expensive, compared to buying a pre-built model.

I'll list a few points as to why self builts are better:

1) Level of customisation. You can do anything you want to your PC, put anything in it, and it won't void any warranties as each part has their own.

2) No bloated pre-installed OS with useless trial programs and junk programs from the OEM. Just what you install on it, nothing else.

3) Sense of achievement. You've built something all your own. It's yours, it's unique, and you can change it in any way you want. A prebuilt system is just a tool or an item, a custom system is one's pride and joy :)

4) Warranties. Each part has its' own warranty, which is either lifetime for things like RAM and Graphics Cards, and anywhere from 2-7 years for HDD's, PSU's and just about anything else.

TL;DR: Custom built machines are better in almost every way.

For a computer capable of actually gaming, definitely build it yourself. You'll save heaps. You might be able to get a really cheap pre-built for less, but upgrading those to a decent standard is going to be a pain and will probably end up costing more than a custom built one.

just show him the price tag difference, then tell him how much higher the part quality is with these, then how much better the warranties are with the companies. there are just too many reasons why i refuse to ever buy a pre-built ever again.
