Ready to pull the trigger!

Here's what I put together:

Case - http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811154094
^It has a handle, so it would be good for the portability you wanted. ;)
Motherboard - http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157306
GPU - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814129230
Power Supply - http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817703035
CPU - http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116504
^This CPU is special in that it allows you to overclock, which you probably will not need to do. If you need to save money, you can shave a good $30 off the total cost if you go with a cheaper CPU.
RAM - http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148540
Hard Drive - http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136798
^You could also choose a 500GB version of this drive to save ~20$. Either way, this is definitely the type of drive to go with. It has a 5-year warranty, so you're basically guaranteed that this thing is built to last at least until you're ready to upgrade again.
DVD Drive - http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135204
^This one has received a very large number of positive reviews, so I figure that it is probably a good option.

The total cost is $935 without shipping, rebates, and Windows, but that can be lowered if necessary. ;)

Ok so the 500GB harddrive should be fine. I wouldn't mind using the cheaper CPU to save another $30 as long as it not a significant difference.

That would bring the price to just below $900 which would be fantastic :D

Cool, so here's the 500GB hard drive:

I'm not sure what shipping brings the total price up to, because I don't live in Canada. :P If it becomes too expensive, I could also find a cheaper motherboard.

Ok thats perfect!

I will most likely order tomorrow night. But just to make sure, is that all the pieces I will need to order from newegg to build the PC? I guess I will have to purchase Windows 7 as well; is it more or less the same price everywhere?

I will be buying my monitor in store just havent decided where yet.

Thanks for the wisdom my friend!

No problem. ;) Hopefully all goes well with your build.

First of all, the Ram I listed was one 8GB stick instead of 2 x 4GB sticks, so that the OP could upgrade to 32GB in the future if he wanted to. That's why it's more expensive. Second of all, I always go for Crucial RAM because Micron makes their memory in the USA. So, out of principle and the fact that most RAM manufacturers are all about the same quality, go for this:
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148500
It also has a lower CAS latency than the GSkill, so it should be minutely faster.

Why the cheese would somebody want 32 GB of ram?! Get 2 4 Gb sticks for dual channel!

True, but you never know what the future holds. I see what you mean, though. :o I kinda overlooked the dual-channel opportunity. The lower CAS latency is also a benefit, since none of Crucial's larger modules have it.

All ordered! Came to $1015 with taxes and shipping.

While I'm waiting for it to be delivered Ill have to pick up Windows 7 and a monitor then I should be ready to rip! :D

By the time anybody will ever need 32 Gb, this PC will be so outdated he probobly would have got rid of it. I run sony vegas with 4 Gb, 8 GB is enough.

Awesome. Good luck! :)

Yeah, I don't really know what I was thinking. :o You're right.

2x4GB sticks would have been better, or 2x8GB to 16GB, you'd get dual-channel that way. Don't know if the OP purchased the single 8GB DIMM or the dual-channel setup though.

My Dad has 32GB of RAM, but that's just because he's awesome. ;)

Rubbish I use 32GB of RAM as a RAM disk for several applications. Just depends on what you need. Ill agree that a lot of people don't need more than 8GB, but to say no one needs in the future, or even now isn't correct.
