Real Player takes over my PC

Hello, i couldn't find any material on this in a Search and i wasn't sure which section to ask it in, so i put it here. I downloaded Real Player SP (the free version) mainly so i could download net videos, eg YouTube stuff. But i find this program now decides it has preference and takes over when i try to play streaming videos through Windows Media Player. That would be ok if it worked, but after it decides Real Player will play it (instead of WMP, even though i clicked on..."Play in Windows Media Player"), Real Player says it cannot render or recognise this file ! I have tried unistalling RP and reinstalling it and NOT selecting "Make Real Player my default Player" which worked for a while, but after a few weeks, it has reset itself! Very annoying.

How do i set it up so my default player is a Windows player, such as WMP or Media Player Classic, both of which work well, especially Classic, which i am very happy with. I hate RP, except for the internet video download feature. Is there other less obtrusive programs out there that can do the same thing as RP?

Thanks for any help !! PS, also i have noticed that all the Real Player files have extension *.flv Flash video, i tried changing the properties and the file name with a wmv extension but that didn't work. WMP plays the sound but no video

I would uninstall RealPlayer and install VLC. As for setting WMP as the default player, you should be able to do this in WMP via Tools-->Options-->File Types-->Select All-->Apply.

DeanJ, i just tried that in WMP and it seems to work ! I will also try Video Lan, VLC, it looks very interesting. Thanks very much for that help
