Real stupid question regarding CPU

Okay, I haven't seen a new CPU in years and the last ones I had were a Pentium 4 and a Q6600. I just got in the mail a CPU i7 3820 I bought on eBay. Question: Where are the pins at? LOL Do they not make CPU's with pins anymore? It's just covered with small copper or gold dots where the pins should be.

Any Intel socket since lga 775 has had the pins on the motherboard and not the cpu. Wow, you haven't been around in a long time. :)

Just be careful when installing it, I had an I7 920 and I bent the pins on the motherboard and the store wouldn't take it back because I tried to install it myself.

You said you had a Q6600. Those don't have pins on the chip.

I didn't install the CPU, my Bro did. I could have sworn it had pins. It must have been the other CPU he bought back then.

My current computer is a Q6600, 6GB DDR2, GTX 560 TI. I was going to use this i7 3820, but decided to go with a Haswell instead so I will be selling the i7 3820 CPU.

LGA = Land Grid Array

As stated, the pins are pretty fragile on the motherboard socket so take care when you get your parts and are installing them. I tried to install a 4770K after some moderate drinking and it didn't end well. They are a real pain to get bent back into place without breaking them off.
