Ok,

Im trying to figure out what model motherboard i have!?

It says 'HT 2000' on the top of the board when case is opened...
is this the model? i googled it and it said it made by AMD.
Also, it says on the middle of board 'Serial ATA II'.

So, which is the actual model.

What Im altimately trying to find out is if my motherboard can have a graphic card upgrade with the 'VisionTech 4870 HD 512 mb' card. It requires a DD5.

The stock graphic card that came with the comp is a 8500gt 256mb.

Id also like to know if all Power Supplies are universal. Meaning can I use any make and wattage size?

Thank you for your help

:)

None of them is the model. HT 2000 refers to the HT link, which is AMD's equivalent of Intel CPU's FSB. Serial ATA II means SATAII, which is an interface for connecting drives (hard disks, optical drives etc.)

I would download a program to get the info for me, I recommend CPU-Z.

Of course they aren't - wattage&amperage tell the PUSs ability to supply power, if your PSU wattage is below the requirements of your system, it ain't gonna work.

It doesn't "require" DDR5 (actually is GDDR5), it has GDDR5 video memory on it. As long as your motherboard has a PCI-E slot, the card should work (oh and of course, you need a decent PSU).

PSU = Power Supply (Unit).

There should be a sticker attached to it, it should tell the wattage and amperage of the PSU. Also, the brand of the PSU matters - a high-quality 550 watt PSU can easily handle tasks where a 650W el-cheapo wouldn't cut it.

ahh i see, yeah its 350 stock, but i know that i have to upgrade it as well for the new card.

would you suggest anything besides this card?...'VisionTek Radeon HD 4870 512MB'
Budget is $300 CAD

I am running a AMD Phenom x4 and 6 gb of memory if this helps for any graphic card suggestions.

And do you think getting a 100$ motherboard will be better than the stock board I have?

Unless you plan on getting a new Intel CPU (which I believe you're not doing as you already have a fairly good CPU), upgrading your motherboard will be of very little use and you won't see any performance gains. As for the video card you've picked, the Radeon 4870 is awesome esp. for the price, by all means go for it.
