I have this problem when i run microsoft word my computer will not respond and i have to end task the program. My computer will eventually heat up until i end task word. I scanned my computer with numerous av program and other programs for trojans etc. I also did a reinstall of my os. I opened my computer recently and add new thermal paste to my heat sink ever since i did so my computer is responding ok not heating up until i open microsoft word. There seems to be a probel with word. also opening folders with to many pictures or files in them will also cause my comnputer to heat up and not respond. I did a clean install of my os and microsoft word.

My computer specifics are:

Amd athlon 64 processor 2.41 ghz 1.87 gb of ram windows xp home

Have you ran a diagnostic on your hard drive? A fresh install should not be giving you problems unless you have a hardware issue like ram, hdd or video card.

Then why does my computer heat up and not respond when I try to open word

Is your word install cd all scratched up? If you've done a fresh install and still having problems then I would start looking at your install cd or hardware.

Even 512 MB of RAM is plenty for just Microsoft Word program lol.I would say that the problem lays somewhere in your computer's hardware. Also be sure that your CD of the Microsoft Word isn't damaged, but then again if it is,you probably wouldn't be able to install it unless you are installing only typical components so those other custom "damaged" components were never even used lol.I am 99% sure that the problem is the hardware.Tell me something...how your computer reacts when you use any other programs???

From the last sentence in his paragraph, it appears to be an issue not just related to Word.

It does sound like hardware.

When i open folders that contain to many pictures or files my computer would not respond and start heat up then i would have to end task the folder. Many of the programs run fine except word.

How did you reinstall your OS?

Before installing an OS,you MUST completely format your HDD and you can NOT do that by using your Windows disk!!!Instead you must use the DOS tool called Kill Disk 4.1!!!It will format all your sectors to all zeros.

Normal format from the Windows disk does not delete the boot sector.Instead it creates the new one over the old one and that can result in the little smaller disk space after the end of the installaiton and also can make certain things to crash or not working at all such as Wireless Lan.It happened to me few times and I also thought that the HDD was at the end of its cycle, but instead it was working perfectly.Of course I am not saying that this is the ONLY reason that makes his programs to crash, but its definetely worth of a shot before buying the new HDD.

Yea I thought that too but the similar things happened on more then 3 different computers and when I formatted the HDD using the Kill Disk and THEN formatted the HDD again using the Windows disk and then installed them, everything worked like charm.

1) The boot sector works, and Windows starts.
2) The boot sector doesn't work, and Windows doesn't start.

(This goes both for the mbr and the pbr)

The partition boot sector is always rewritten when you format/install. The boot sector has zero influence on the things mentioned here.

I used the recovery cds. I should then use kill disk 4 then use the recovery cds to reinstall my os.

Exactly.Because when reinstalling an OS over the old OS using the recovery disks,WITHOUT THE PREVIOUS FULL FORMAT WITH TOOLS LIKE KILL DISK 4.1,thats not a good idea.

Cheers!
