Really high temps!!!

Ok, something I dont understand now. My cpu is supposed to run at like 30c idle correct. So the fan should run at high until it can get the cpu down to that level, right? Well I can put my box fan right infront of the side of my case and blow crazy air right into the cpu cooler and get my temp to go down to about 52C. But what dosnt make sense is, in doing that my cpu fan slows down, like it thinks its doing its job but its like 30deg from doing its job. I dont get it.

Ok, soooo i'm kinda ticked. I got my zalman today, installed it w/ AS5 and booted up. Jumped into bios and saw my temps at about 38-40c. Get into windows and see anywhere from 44-48c off of my programs. Needless to say I was mad. So I pulled it off and it looked like I had a little to much AS5 on there, so I respread the stuff on the proc and cleaned the stuff off of the HS. Put it back on, SAME THING. I really dont get it now, could I have bad sensors or something or could it really just be bad cooling. Because I just noticed that my chipset temp is about 40c right now, which seems high to me since it has the full heatpipe passive cooling system WITH the optional fan on it. I know the AS5 does take a little while to work in and could drop a max of 5c over time but that still isnt even close to what it should say. Should the heatpipes on my HS feel hot, because right now they dont at all. Could that mean its not transfering? I'm just so mad right now because I took a ton of time to clean all this with the AS cleaners and everything.

I think your temps are realy like 30ish, it sounds to me like theres a bad temp sensor on the motherboard. Overclocked i idle at 28*c with the zalman paste.

Ok new update. I just tried to run 3dmark05 to try to push it a little and for now the computer shuts down after the second test. This didnt even happen while I had my stock heatsink. I really dont understand this anymore. The really weird thing is, I logged my temps with "Core Temps" and it showed a giant spike of 206c, like 20sec before it shut down. This cant possibly be right. I must have a bad sensor. Is this good enough reason to RMA to Newegg?
