i changed my monitor refresh rate to way more then it was supposed to be on. so it turned off. but how can i change the settings back?

im in safe mode and i cant change it from there.]

thanks

Was that is the display settings>advanced? For lcds never go over 75htz. The older crts could go upto about 90htz if the card supported it. That's something to take note of to avoid raising them up too high again.

For seeing the defaults restored manually starting up the system restore feature from the safe mode /command prompt only option seen in the F8 boot menu will bring the system back to the way it is was before raising the refresh rate too far. Once at the command prompt simply type in
%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

Once you type that in the way you see it here simply press the return/enter to see the system restore prompt appear. From there you simply choose a day and time depending on the restore points available to bring the system before the cahnge was made. You will then likely see the default 60htz setting.

Probably an easier way is to reboot the system, and keep tapping F8 before Windows starts (as you would do for Safe Mode). Chose VGA Mode. You should be able to change the settings from there.

The other option besides the vga debugging mode ceewi1 is talking about there would be done while up in safe mode of simply removing the current video drivers. Windows will snap back into it's own vga drivers at the 60htz default refresh rate. Using a restore point simply avoids the hassles seen at times when trying to get drivers to go back on.

lol i already did a system restore. i had tried changing it in vga safe mode already.

thanks guys. all fixed
