really saved up for awhile, getting a good dual core, will new psu work?

That PSU should work fine with your setup, although I'd spend a little bit mroe and get a better one. But like I said, you shouldn't have problems with that one.

Also, can I ask why you're getting an Athlon, and not an Intel Core 2 Duo?

And that mobo is crap...

Personally I would look for an Antec tru power-2 PSU 550 watt on newegg.com for about $89.00 the one you picked is poor generic quality

motherboards look for gigabyte, msi, dfi, asus, abit

mid grade = asrock, foxconn, Epox,

avoid the bottom feeders:

evga, tyan, Elite, chaintech, jetway etc

ok well i will get the gpu later in the year, but my financial limit for the psu, cpu, and mobo is about $430 and what i have now is at that limit. could you guys select a different way to go?

Am I missing something? The three components you've selected add up to a lot less than $430. Also, do you need something that will support regular DDR RAM?

For all you know, he could be the son of AMD's CEO...

ha ha ha... i wish lol. but yeah, it does have to be ddr400, becausse that is way to much to upgrade again, (i just spent 100 for 1gb of ddr400)

and it comes out to around 430 because i have to get another edition o windows along with it. when i had my computer built a few years back, the people who made it didnt give me my installation disk or key codes. so yeah, i have to spend an axtra 89.99 for that

EDIT: and just a side not, if i get a good mobo that can do it, is sli really worth it?

hey guys i just updated th things i will get. tell me if this will work plz:

amd athlon x2 4600 (instead of 4400) manchester

xcliogoodpower 500w

windows xp home

same mobo (unless you guys can find another for the same price)

ok good good. is there any way to make it cheaper? lol after tax and shipping it comes out to 466.99 lol i only have like 370 and it will be awhile before i get more

Downgrade the processor. The X2s, while not as good as the Core 2s for overclocking, are still very good.

so no 4600? would a 4200 still play games like aoe3 and far-cry maxed out?

It all depends on your graphics card. For instance, I could play AOE maxxed out on my Pentium D 820 and my "X850XT", even though it lagged just a bit during large battles.

yeah, same here witrh my x800gto. but i could never play quake4 or fear or prey with my setup now. would my new setup be able to do that?

If you upgrade your graphics card, it will, but if you just upgrade your processor, you most likely won't be able to.

lol i know THAT n/m i'm just trying to make sure that what i have been saving for so long actually is worth it.
