Reboot Problems

When i reboot my pc it gets to the blue windows xp screen starting windows its there for awhile then my desktop shows up but its just my wallpaper no desktop icons show up and no taskbar..anytime i use regular shutdown i have no problems whats so ever..can someone please help me with this

weird... do you have any option ctrl alt delete, windows key, or what happens when you put in a autoboot cd (any cd youve actually purchased)
 
well it boots fine then when it says welcome on the blue screen is where it pauses then my desktop shows up with only the wallpaper nothing else like i said and ctrl alt delete works fine thats how i shutdown with the problem and it shows all the processes are running
 
is exporer running? not interenet but go ctrl alt del and go to processes and see if explorer is running explorer.exe takes like 17000k of usage thats what shows your icons and other stuff, how did this start?
 
yea explorer is showing..im not exactly sure if this is when it started cause i dont restart all the time but the first time i noticed it was when i was using this internet download manager program i was in options and chose advanced and it had to do a restart to apply these options and boom there was the first time i saw it
 
hmm well i guess just do a system restore, can never hurt, back your computer to before the problem. start, all programs, accessories, system tools, system restore
 
did it say why? if you still ahve the windows xp discs you can repair or on boot up you can load your last good config, i forget which key probly f10 or f12
 
i dont recall..nothing is working and now its happening sometimes when i do straight shutdown..but when i hit ctrl al delte i end task on explorer.exe then i go to new task and type in explorer.exe and everything comes up desktop and taskbar but doesnt fix the problem just solves in then
 
try ending the current explorer process and then starting a new one by Start>New Task then type in

i did that at the star of today and that working for that session only it would appear as soon as i did that but i would sitll have the problem and now that doesnt even work
