Hiya peeps im new to all this and i have just rebooted my computer with a disk that i got off the person i bought the computer off ages ago and its booted up ok but then when it comes to the welcome screen it asks for a password but i totally have no idea wot this is. Now it wont let me do anything else like try another disk to reboot it with or anything, Just wondering if there was a way of turning this password thing off so it doesnt come up or if there is anything else i could do please, any help would be very helpfull, thanks

Do you have the original restore or OS CD/DVD? The best way is to simply reformat and reinstall Windows since it appears there's no data that you need.

You say you are at the welcome screen, so I'm assuming it's Windows XP. Do you know if it's the Home or Pro version?

hi and thanks for replying. Its the home edition and when i turn the computer on everything starts as normal but then a screen comes up with 2 user names on it which is mine and guest but no matter which one of them i click on it asks for a password which i dont have and the recovery disks looks like a copied version

You can try the recovery disks, they should work as long as they came from that computer.

What you can also try is press F8 during startup, and then select Safe Mode. Most often with Windows XP Home systems, there is no password for the Administrator account.

i've put the recovery disk back in again but it wont even boot back up from there as it wont do anything and i've pressed f8 and ive gone thru all the options on there but still no good. There is no way at all to clear the system again is there and reboot from another disk that i can borrow as i cant get passed this password
