Reboot you will still have your pics, but I think you meant reload. If you do not format everything from the old windows will be placed into C:\windows.old including pictures. It is possible your drive got fried it happened to one of mine. I used ultimate boot disk to get the files. I recently posted some material on my site about this. The sata cable is more than likely fine tho.
