Hi. I accidentally found this website through google because I'm running out of options as to where I can troubleshoot my laptop problem.
HP Pavilion zd7000 - purchased 11/04
Recently, like maybe november 06, my laptop started shutting down on its own. Sometimes it would reboot, other times it would remain shut in the middle of whatever it is I'm doing. So I didn't think it was a problem then. I normally use my notebook to play WoW (online game) for hours on end. But now I couldn't even go a whole hour without it dying on me. I sent it to Geek Squad to see if they can solve the problem, but I ended up wasting my money. I found the Operating System CD repairer the notebook came with, but that didn't do anything except bring me to the c prompt without repairing at all. I even tried using System Restore from the earliest date it would allow me to backtrack (since I don't set-up restore points coz I didn't know) but that didn't help either. It still dies.
I've noticed that I hear this clicking sound when I press the power button at times (but one repair shop says it's just the speaker, but it didn't do that before), and that the laptop tends to feel kinda hot - which made me buy the Targus chill mat and even bought a new battery to see if those would work. They help, but it still shuts off. The only anti-virus I have is from AOL and my friend thinks it doesn't search everything - and the fact that my laptop dies, I can't scan it fully coz it would restart back to 1% if my notebook resets. I wrote HP and they told me to try to use the tools option during the boot command (using f10) but there is no tools option except the utilities and the admin passwords. I need help!
Is it possible that there's a hardware issue here? Or is there a virus that causes notebooks to keep resetting? My last option is a re-format of the drive, which would make me find a place to upload all my files before wiping it clean, but I'm trying to avoid this until I can find out what the problem is. My thread is long, but I hope I got every necessary information out. Thanks!
