Instead of buying anew computer i've decided to just rebuild my old one. So far i have 2 gig of ram, just bought an ati radeon 1800xl,500 watt smartpower2.0 ( the cord didnt fit on my m/b ), and im not sure about the rest of my feature for the computer. I do have a pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.40GHz. My old M/b didnt have a pci express x16 slot, so im going to have to buy a new mother board. ive tried asking the workers at fry's about stuff but they really dont seem like they know everything and is just out there to seel stuff, hense thats why i bought the G/card, and the smartpower not knowing that its not going to work. Im looking into buying a new m/b but not sure what to get. does it matter what kind i get? do i need to know the rest of the feature for my comp? how do i find that? Im willing to spend $200 bucks for it and just going to get it at fry's http://shop3.outpost.com/search?search_type=regular&sqxts=1&query_string=motherboard&cat= also im rebuilding my computer for games.

Are you planning on upgrading the CPU as well? (I would, since the CPU is currently seriously bottlenecking the system)

was that a power supply you said you bought that the connector would not fit the mainboard. There are some new 24 pin connectors power supplys that have a mark on the connector where it will fit into a 20 pin old style mainboard recepticle. the latch on the connector is also a little of to one side.

There is a known issue with Antec NeoHH and ASUS A8NSLI DLX boards ... although you have a SP series, it might be worth looking into to see if there is an issue there too

ok well i finished building my computer last night. i have a amd athlon 64 processor 3700+, a8nsl deluxe motherboard, 600 w extreme power, ati 1800xl, 2 g ram, and a wopping 28 g harddrive(lol). im planning to eventually buy a new harddrive but im in no hurry. Besides that would my set up be considered to be good? and any other suggestions of what i should add besides the H/d? And thanks for all the help ive gotten before, it is cheaper to just build ur own computer, and it preforms better too.

I would have either bought the 3500 (cheaper and the loss of 512K L2 probably isnt going to be noticed) or stepped up to a X2-3800/4200 for the second core. Other than that, yes thats definitely a high performing box.
