rebuilding gaming computer

So about 2 years ago I started this build and finshed about 8 months later (money was tight). Now that I've had it for a little bit I need to upgrade. Now I have the EVGA 720i SLI with a Core 2 Duo ( I know why that). Now I want to upgrade the motherboard and CPU. Not sure if I want to stick with Intel or go to AMD. I have a XFX 4650 and 4660 Graphics card (2 screens one for each). I need to find a Motherboard/CPU set that is not high dollar but is not crap at the same time. I was also wanting to know if I should get the XFX 5770 or switch to GForce. Suggestions are welcome and you can talk Sh** about my systems but it was my first build and I am proud of it. It's not great but it works.

Other info. 2 HD for a total of 750GB, don't know anything about overclocking and I don't not know much other than how to plug and play. If I don't know the answer I will flat out say it and then go an look up the answer, I am not afraid to ask for help either.

Thanks

If you're going with one of the newer CPU/MB, it'll mean changing RAM too since socket 775 was using DDR2 RAM. What games do you play and at what resolution? I dont think there's a lot of difference between Nvidia and ATI gpu. Just have to look at individual card performance and their price and see which offer you the most bang for the buck.

Right now APB: Reloaded, Combact Arms, MoH, BF: BC2 and soon BF3. My screen is set to 1600 x 900. Right now I have to play everything on the lowest setting so I'm getting my butt kick every game.

I havent been in touch with CPU and such so I'll leave it to someone more experienced. As for the GPU, the 5770 is an old series. You could go with a 6850 which is in the same price range of the 5770 but perform almost on par with the 5850. It cost about 20 more than a 5770. The Nvidia counterpart of the 6850 is the GTX 460 but it's more expensive and lose to the 6850 in a lot of tests. With the 6850, you'll have no problem with BF2 at 1600x900 and max setting.

and if you change mobos you will have to get a new copy of windows for 100, and there are new cpus coming out soon so i wouldn't mess with that just yet, and yeah the 6850 should be good for what you want.
