Recently got a faster ISP, but still getting similar speeds?

My internet connection used to max out at around 10 mb/s, but I recently switched to a new ISP that ups it to around 30 mb/s. When I connect my laptop to the ethernet cable directly, I always get around 30 mb/s. However, when I go wireless I only get close to 5 mb/s :confused:

As ya'll can tell I'm obviously a newb when it comes to optimizing internet speed on a laptop. Can someone help a brother out? lol
 
Could be the router or the wireless card. Try another wireless computer to see what it gets for speed. If it gets the same as yours then its the router, if not, then its your system and you should probably try updating the wireless driver.

Tried my bros laptop and he managed to get similar results. My router is an old D-Link. Maybe it's the router?
 
Hey man, i can't be 100% sure about this but i'd say that since its an old wireless router it most likely cant handle the new speeds your presenting it, it was probably maxing out before hand, if i could make a suggestion, i would sugest a Netgear N 150 or 300 depending on what your network usage is like this will greatly increase your speeds, but PLEASE NOTE: if the wireless card in your laptop is faulty OR is an older model taking only b not G or N then u need a new network card.

I think I have the most basic network card installed on my laptop. I remember when I had the option to add a G or N network card when I was building it online, but I had no idea what they meant. So now I have to get a network card along with a router to get the most out of 30 mb/s correct?
 
Looks like you have a wireless B card instead of a wireless G as B's max speed is 11mb. Any wireless G or N card or router will support your 30mb speed from your provider.
