Im building a PC for xmas which is going to be mainly for gaming.

just wondering what the best processor would be to get? (without spending crazy amounts of money)

Well, it depends really. Just get an AMD Athlon 64 3500. Also get a nice video card and a motherboard that supports dual core CPUs. That way, when dual core games and applications become more popular, you can upgrade the 3500 to a dual core. And by then the dual core CPUs will be cheaper.

ye but his budget is £800 in the uk u can get a x2 3800 and a msi geforce 7800 gt a8n delux sli mobo and 1 gig of good ram and al the rest for that price

But the dual core will not perform its best until games and apps can use it. So he should stick with the single core until that point so he can uprgade and get a better dual core then the x2 3800 in the future for the same price, or maybe less.

I don't know much about international shopping, but would you be able to order from Newegg.com? I love that place. :)

Ok, that's too bad for you foreigners. Newegg is awesome, they still take things back like 40 days after you bought it.
