ok so i know crt are better than lcd for gaming due to their refresh rate or something, im not so smart about all the monitors but im a huge gamer! :D

i just need a good monitor that is worth buying

im looking for a 18" viewing/ 19" BLACK monitor

i also have a 9600xt if that helps at all

It depends what your budget it. You can get a good gaming crt for around $200. For around $500 you can get a lcd that will work fine for gaming. Just make sure that its response time is less than 12ms to prevent ghosting.

This could spark a whole CRT vs. TFT battle yet again. :P

What's worth buying is often up to user preference. If I were you I'd go to the local store and have a look at a few to give yourself an idea of the specs you want, and go from there.

I would get a 12ms or less large LCD. Plus you can get the LCD in widescreen pretty cheaply too... makes your peripheral vision in games much wider... don't have to look side to side as much... I like this for quake3 which I play. TFT's are great for games, take 1/2 the power, also, the images don't fluctuate... like when your images in the CRT change...the picture sometimes gets a tad larger or smaller. The LCD's look crisper and more stable.

Also...

yeh i would get 12ms or lower if going for a tft nowadays, and you'd be daft not to really since CRTs are basically becoming a thing of the past.

Having said that I have a Viewsonic VX910 which is 16ms and doesn't have any ghosting issues or such at all... it's excellent for gaming, even fast paced FPS' where ghosting is most usually prevelent, like Quake 3 :)
