So just set up my computer and Im pretty confident the stock HSF for the E8400 CPU is pretty lame and would like to upgrade it. Can anyone recommend a decent, cheap HSF for the E8400? I dont plan on overclocking much, so dont need anything highend...just dont like the stock HSF...

I use the COOLER MASTER 92mm Hyper TX2 CPU Cooler, it's not a super high end piece of equipment, but cools very well. When I got it the copper surface was not as good as it should have been so I lapped it. I threw on some Arctic Silver 5 and strapped it down. Temps are good:)

Intel Q9300 @ 2.875
39c Idle & 50c Load running prime95 for about 3 hours

COOLER MASTER 92mm Hyper TX2 for only $30

A great place to compare CPU coolers is here...

While I was waiting for my Freezone to be RMA'd I ran my E8400 with a standard Intel HSF. NOT the half-height HSF that comes with the processor, but the standard full height one. It maintained decent temps (68c running Orthos and OCCT) thru 4 GHz for me.

If you'r just looking for a mild OC, pretty much any HSF will probably do the job.
