I'm relatively new to pc gaming in general. Since I built my computer a couple months ago I've played through all the games in the orange box (except TF2, not really my thing) and I really enjoyed them all. I also got Crysis and played through that and thought it was pretty sweet except for some bugs right at the end. Lately I've been playing a TON of BF2 as it takes a while to really get old, but I'm not sure I'm willing to spend 30$ to get the expansions since the game was only 10$.

Anywho, that's about it really for pc games since starcraft. I'm a little burnt out on FPS right now after hl2, portal, crys, and bf2 so I was thinking maybe another rts since I havent gotten into one since starcraft. Played through Warcraft 3 once a while ago, didn't tickle me the way starcraft did.

I read a ton of good reviews on World in Conflict but didn't see a playable demo anywhere. I tried the demo of company of heroes on steam and that seemed kinda cool. I was really thinking about Sins of a Solar Empire though. I have some target gift cards still around from christmas and I see it there for 30$. It looks really interesting from the reviews I've seen but I'm open to any recommendations.

thanks!

BF2:SF

Only go for Special Forces. I just got it shipped for $10 last week. I don't even play it, the expansions are nothing special but I got Special Forces for the extra unlocks. It was definitely worth $10 haha.

I played the WiC demo and own both Company of Heroes. I would have to say I enjoy Company of Heroes more, but that's just between the two. Half.com is a good place to look for games, even new ones. You could check out Fallout 3 or Fable 2. Garry's Mod is pretty fun too, although I don't know if you would consider it a fps.

I have world in conflict. Its an awesome game. Lots of fun.
I got the demo of company of heroes and it was pretty good. I'd recommend both.

Red Alert 3 is a good one too but I'm not very far into it.

IMO the BF2 addons are definitely worth the money if you are into BF2. more specifically special forces, although the others are good too.

one thing to keep in mind is you own the orange box, and now have access to all of the HL2 mods available, some of which are great.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game Of The Year Edition
Awesome graphics, huge map (42 km squared)
And hundreds of hours of gameplay

How do you (or someone else) work out 42km squared? And in comparison to other huge free roaming games like WoW or AoC or FFXI etc, how big is it?

Got this from wikipedia "According to a Microsoft press release, Oblivion's game world is approximately 16 square miles (41 km2) in size."
I'm sure games like WoW are probably much bigger but you have to pay monthly to play.

...thats a really good question. I guess there must be some sort of scale so everything is proportional.

Apparanlty, wow is 112 km (last june)

EDIT, thats kinda a funny video.
EDIT 2: haha, if it was a planet itd have aradius of 12 km.

liking the video, was quite funny in a nerdy way XD. thankyou very much for the reply.

I found that baffling to be honest how he worked all of that out. The 12km diameter was hilarious though, and then working out the mass and density of it was brilliant, that is so much more than i expected as a reply, not that i expectetd a reply at all to be honest :P

Now another thing though. Because outland and northrend wasn't included in that, but now ofcourse we know that they are in the game through expansions, can we say that it is approximately 3x larger than 112km, so 336km? Also, cities and instances weren;t accounted for. Cities are much larger than the space they seem to take up on the area map, so could we say because there are 10 cities altogether (4 horde, 4 alliance and 2 sanctuaries, shattrath and dalaran) we can add another few km squared?

Even though i have just ripped that apart and proved it to be not 100% accurate nor cureent, it is a brilliant find none the less and thankyou very much for posting it, it's a little piece of warcraft trivia crap that i can go and talk to my guild about :P

That is pretty accurate then aswell then i'd have thought. That is still huge for a game though really, 41km2 would take you so long to wander around in. I played oblivion for a little bit and got bored after a couple of hours so didn;t get to explore all of that, i didn'd realise i had quite that much to go see still though

Yeah it's huge.
And very dense too
If you go exploring in a minute you are bound to find something (like an Oblivion Gate or Cave or Shrine).
Sometimes you'll even have bandits attack you for money : P
I could go on for an hour talking about Oblivion

Well, a good FPS is Unreal Tournament, but as I said, that's an FPS... I'm not really into RTS games so I can't really recommend one.

You could always gift your copy of TF2 over Steam if you don't like it. ;) :P :D

do you know if you can do that if you only own one copy of it?
