Recommendation for HDD tough HDD?

Is the thing to do is put photos and important stuff on a cloud site? How you set up one drive?

Also, anyone recommend a good HDD the ones I have had and broke-


WD Elements. Did mind you take it on holiday wrapped in t-shirt- maybe it got knocked.

Can I get one - put photos on leave under bed somewhere- should it be ok and keep data for years even if not plugged in?

Other one is permanently plugged into TV- so can watch films on it!

External drives are meant for being plugged in and not much movement otherwise. Are you using the thick externals such as the MY Book drives and not using the portable ones like the My Passport size drives? The thicker my book drives are designed to be left on a desktop or shelf. The smaller My Passport drives can be moved around more without damage.
