Recommendations for a Desktop

I would like some advice about buying a computer as I am not technologically inclined. I currently have a laptop which is great for when I travel. Up until now, I've never had a problem with it or its functionality.

I would like to buy a desktop computer because I am finding it increasingly frustrating to do my lengthy school assignments and essays on a laptop. I am also doing a lot of writing because I am starting a blog which requires long hours of research and writing. My rationale for buying a desktop is that I prefer using a separate keyboard and mouse, it will be a good 'family' computer for kids (as I do not want them using my desktop), and it'll be an upgrade from my current laptop. My wife will also use it for some of her business as well.

There are also a few other requirements. Because I will have multiple windows and programs open at a time, I would like to have three separate screens. I have two at work at I find it very functional, but three would be preferred.

My questions to this forum are:

1. Where does one go to buy a computer? My brother recommended www.ncix.com. PS It will be shipped to Canada.
2. What range of specifications should I opt for? I don't want any performance issues in the near term and money is not a big consideration. I understand what most of the technical specifications mean, I just don't have a clue as to their value in relation to my needs.
3. Is there an easy way to rig a computer to have three monitors?

Merci beaucoup.

Since you are in canada, I would recommend building your own computer and get the parts from www.newegg.ca. We can help you pick out parts depending on what you will be using the system for. Will there be any high end gaming played?

Johnb35,

Thanks for your response. To answer your question, there will not be any game play on it. I will use it strictly for business and school.

What kind of budget do you have? Do you need everything including monitor, keyboard, and mouse?

Johnb35,

Money is not the major consideration here as I am looking for functionality. I don't want to spend money on things I don't need, but would have no problems spending it on things that I do. As for products, I would need the whole package (tower, 3 x monitors, keyboard, mouse).

I'm sure you can pick out your mouse and keyboard.

As far as the monitors go, I picked that one for an example because I believe one monitor needs to support display port so you can use 3 monitors. I may be wrong though. Hopefully someone will chime in explaining it better.

Johnb35,

Thanks a million for your time and advice. If I ever see you on the street, I owe you a coke.

I'll order it this week.

Ditto to the other poster.
