Recommendations for laptops

I'm sure this is a very reoccurring question, but I must ask it.
I will be starting college next year and so, of course, I'm needing a new laptop. My school has no preference (although I will be entering an engineering school if that helps), and I also don't really care whether I get a PC or Mac. So here are my parameters:
-Below $1200
-Fairly decent video card for gaming (CS: Source, WoW, CoD)
-Roughly 15'' screen, for easy carrying
-Obviously an all-around quality computer

ps: I've looked at the white MacBook, but have heard rumors that they are phasing out the white ones. any truth to this?

Thanks to all.

Macbooks are good but they're quite expensive for what you get. I saw one for $2500 and my laptop had the same specs. The only difference was mine is $1000 cheaper. By the way there's a new dell Laptop that has just come out and its even thinner than the macbook and its called adamo I think but i'm not too sure.Hmmm your probably in america and im in australia so I cant really help you sry.
