I had this problem with a Sony i once owned (with some modding i got it to work though). I don't know if HP does this but i can look into it.

EDIT Here it explains that all major companies have done this before, but they didn't do it to all computers they make. You have to check inside your case to see if you can fit a normal ATX power supply in there or if they use any special connectors. If its just the case thats the issue im sure you could mod it to work or just buy another very cheap case.

I secong those. Very nice helmie. That power supply is a power house. Nice find, it would definitly leave room for expansion.

Yeah, my Akasa is really stable, voltages didnt budge on o/cing. One negative is that is really god damn noisy. And heavy too.

BTW, when did you become a mod. I just noticed :D

I think HP are a little more open minded than dell, so you should hopefully be able to use different parts. Not too sure though.

They just made me mod 2 days ago.

Also like i said before they all have expierimented with proprietary power supplies but not all are made this way.

I could sell you my video card and power supply for a total of $300 USD if you want. It's a eVGA 7800GT w/NV Silencer 5 Revision 3, and the power supply is an Aspire 520 Watt +12V@35A Black w/ green UV sleeving, 3 blue LED 80mm fans.

Here is the video card:

Here is a shot of the back of the PSU:
