Record Phone Converstions on My HDD---How??

I'm getting harrassing phone calls from a collection agency looking for a guy that used to live in my house. They aren't taking the hint, and won't give up. They are convinced that this guy still lives here, no matter how much I insist that they quit calling.

I called the cops, and they told me to be cool and record the phone conversations. Prosecute later.

I've found several free software programs to do the job, but they all rely on a PCI voice modem. I'm on DSL. No PCI modem.

I HAVE an old PCI modem, and I'll load it up, but I'm afraid my computer will freak out and try top connect to the internet with the modem, instead of my DSL.

So, does anyone know how I can record my calls to my HDD without spending a fortune? Cheapest thing I can find is a little adaptor that costs $50 or the free software that uses a PCI modem.

i know you can use programs to catch phone calls onto your pc so you can basically answer the phone on your pc and talk there. I dont think they all require a modem, as that would just be retarded of the software writers. after you get that recording it is pretty simple im sure. you could even use sound recorder.

There's nothing to stop you having a network card AND a modem installed simultanously. Personally I wouldn't like the idea. If you go into your network configuration and remove the TCP/IP protocol from your dialup networking, it should be pretty safe.

You can then use it as an input device for sound recorder or whatever. Alternatively you could make up an interface to connect the telephone line to your mic or line-in connection of your sound card. This would be much more secure as it would totally remove any posiblity of the thing ever being used to dial out.

Where are you located? (I only ask as diferent countries use diferent standards on thier public telephone networks).

Just run the phone line through the modem in your pc... and dont setup a dial up connection. Then use the software to record it... Modems are cheap.
