Recording online radio

I know there is software out there and I tried a few. But the problem is that I have to connect to a particular online radio station through the software and it never works. Is there a software like "download helper" for audio streaming? So that I can listen to the station online and just record whatever I am listening to? Any input appreciated
thanks

how bout total recorder or xripper. what ever your listening to at the speakers is intercepted, recorded then back to the speaker.

just set the input up properly

I was curious about the OP's question as well, can you go into more detail on properly setting up Audacity to record things off your sound card

You look in Audacity Preferences, under the Audio, Recording Tab should be a Drop Down Menu. What is in the menu will depend on the Sound Cards Driver, but just try the few settings until you find the one that works for recording what you are hearing.

On one computer I use I will set it to Microsoft sound Mapper input to Record what is being Heard. On another PC I have it was different, and I forgot what the setting was on that one.

OP, this works perfectly, just play around with the drop down settings

Awesome thank you very much. audacity works great and the quality is great too.

and @c4radon.. if you want to record radio you have to change the settings to "Stereo Mix". You can do that by clicking on the drop-down menu (next to the microphone symbol) and select stereo mix. this worked for me.

the audacity website explains it in more detail

"Can Audacity record RealAudio or other streaming audio?
Windows and Linux

With most Windows and Linux audio devices, it is possible to record whatever sound the computer is currently playing, including internet radio streams.

In the drop-down menu on Audacity's mixer toolbar, choose “Wave Out” or “Stereo Mix” as the input source. (The exact name may be different, depending on your computer's sound drivers.) When you press the Record button, Audacity will capture whatever sound is playing on your computer's speakers. Note: on Windows Vista or 7, you must choose the required input source in the "Recording Device" dropdown in the "Audio I/O" tab of Preferences ("Devices" tab in Audacity Beta). On Windows, if you don't have a “Wave Out” or “Stereo Mix” option, or if it won't record, go to the system Control Panel and try to enable this option there. For instructions see: Using the Control Panel on the Wiki.

If this doesn't work on your computer, you can instead use a cable to connect your computer's “Line Out” (speaker) port to its “Line In” port, and use Audacity to record from Line In.

Note: Do not enable "software playthrough" when recording computer playback, because this creates a series of echoes.
Mac OS X

Mac OS X users can capture streaming audio using a program like Soundflower (free, open source), Audio Hijack or Wiretap Pro. For more help see this page on our Wiki.
