Recording?

I'm an amateur singer/songwriter, and I'd like to record music. I'm not looking for anything high quality, just anything better than the mic on my Sony camera. Anything that I can connect to my laptop, under $100 please. I'm in Canada if that helps, and I sing + play piano. I have a laptop, but I know of no programs so you will have to fill me in on that.

I will be doing two things:
Recording my music (no video)
Recording my music + video (Video + Music)
-Video will be recorded by my cheap Sony T5

What mic? Any programs I need?
How do you sync the sound from the mic with the video from the camera? Simply using Movie Maker?

Are you dead set at $100? I can help you forever on this topic, but $100 is really miniscule to do much. Basically what you need to do is get an interface which is a port that you plug your instruments or microphone into then connect it to your computer. They usually come with some simple software as well to record with. A decent interface is going to cost you right around $100 or more and thats no cables or mics.

If you are interested, I have a Zoom MRS8 bundle for sale- http://www.amazon.com/Zoom-MRS-8/dp...8&s=musical-instruments&qid=1230594811&sr=8-1 that includes the machine, a pair of studio headphones, a 1gig SD card, USB sd-card adapter, AC adapter, a copy of cool edit pro 2.0, 2: 1/8inch-1/4 inch adapters and 1 RCA to 1/8 inch cable.

This is a do it all machine with a built in drum/bass machine and you can take the sd card and plug it into your computer and upload the tracks to your computer. It also has a good sounding condenser mic built into it for your vocals or recording your piano.

Im asking $300 for the whole bundle but might be able to work something out.

I want to try to stick around the $100, but $150 is okay I guess. Sorry, I'm not interested in your deal as it is above my price range.
I won't be plugging any instruments into the interface, since I'll just be recording with a grand piano and my voice. I need a interface recommendation please.

The mic will be plugged into the interface correct? Mic recommendation please.

So basically, the interface is connected to the computer, and it will record the music to whatever program I have right?

*Where will I buy this kind of stuff? Music stores?

Interface- http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Alpha/ (This comes with Cubase LE which is very powerful recording software.)

As for mics, that interface supports XLR inputs so you will want a microphone that can support it as well:

mic- http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/PG57XLR/ (This is an awesome deal on this microphone. Shure makes awesome products that will record your piano and vocals and any other acoustic instruments very well.

Grand total would be just under $150
