dudes please help!!! I am in trouble. When i installed linux on my pc with 1 tb hdd, i accidentally selected my media partition (900gb, my home pictures were there, work, home made videos, everything was there...) to be the swap partition and now i can't see it in my computer, windows does not recognize it, lunix too. I had very important files there please tell me how to recover them (if possible in folders as they were in the hard disc)... I will be very grateful, if you help me recovering my files. PLEASE DUDES.

There is File recovery software that can recover files from Formatted Hard Drives, as long as the files have not been overwritten by other data.

I never tried any on a Drive Formatted for Linux, but have for Windows. MajorGeeks.com has a lot of freeware File recovery software you can download to try.

Do this:

1. Install Windows using QUICK format and NOT the FULL one!!!
2. Go to http://www.recovering-deleted-files.net/
3. Download the software from there, install it and perform a FULL SCAN of the entire HDD to recover as much as data as possible...

TIP: If you do not know how to do this, here is a video on youtube which shows that: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ndLXZbqQRAY

That video on youtube shows an example of a quick scan for a specified file, but you SHOULD perform a FULL scan!

Cheers!

Do *NOT* install anything on the partition you're recovering files from, you only risk overwriting them. AFAIK, though, you should be able to use recuva as long as you didn't do a full format, it's a very good piece of software.

Hi,

If the Media partition is not overwritten with new data then you can restore your files. Using some formatted partition recovery software, you can recover all your lost file along with their name and hierarchy of files stored.

Download some good recovery software, evaluate it using demo version and then use it recovery.
