I had an unexpected reinstallation of Windows, but I still have all my files. The problem is that while I have the keys and files for Office 2003 Enterprise, I don't have the CD or the setup files. Is there any way that I can recover the programs?

Thank you for your help

you still have all the files? Including the old registry?

You can try to copy the "Microsoft Office" folder from the program files directory into the new installation. You will have to build the start menu folders manually. Try and open one of the apps and see if it works. If it doesn't the next step is to go into the old registry and copy all the related keys and install them on the new OS.

The problem is that office is pretty integrated into windows. This means lots of embeded files all over the place, so you have have stability issues

I have all the files that it installed onto my hard drive, but I have no idea about the regestry...that is one thing that I try not to mess with cause I don't really understand it :D

What new installation?

i use objectdock, so that doesn't matter
Try and open one of the apps and see if it works.
It gives me an error that it can't load a certain *.dll file on every different program that I try. I think that the *.dlls are still there, though, but it doens't know where to look...is that right?

I don't know if I can do that....please elaborate

OK well now I have new problems. Reinstalling office off the laptop never worked, so I decided to just download the trial standard edition off of microsoft.com. So that worked fine for a while, until I decided to switch my case because the north bridge heatsink popped off and my old case did not have good cooling. All would have been fine, except that the D: drive and the H: drive got switched in the transfer, so all the shortcuts had to be re-oriented with their executable files. All is fine with that except for Office.

Whenever I would run the executable from the program files folder, it brings up an installation window, then gives me an error saying that the program files folder has an invalid character. What the heck does that mean?

So I try to reinstall office from the installer file that I saved. It goes past the extraction fine, but then it gets to the next window and gives me the invalid character error. So i figure maybe the other version needs to be uninstalled first. Except that there is no uninstaller. So I delete the program folder and try it again. Same thing. I delete the registry values (probably not the best of ideas) and when I run the installer it goes nowhere and says fatal error. So I restore the folder from the recycle bin and try to open the programs. It gives me the invalid character error, but with some finnegling (sp??) I am able to get past it and into word/powerpoint. But it is very annoying to do to, and takes like 5 minutes. The little installer window also comes up when I open IE (which I don't use very often) and random other programs, and then goes to the invalid character message. Can anybody tell me what the f**k is going on with my computer?

The other solution I came up with was to take the hard drive from my laptop and put it as an external (USB or Firewire) drive on my desktop. If I did so, would I be able to run the programs without reinstalling? And could somebody find me a converter that would allow me to connect the hard drive in such a way?

Wow that was long

Thanks in advance for the help
