Recover Protected Exe File

Ok so I got this program from a programmer that I met a while back through a friend and he gave me some software that has a password on the executable he gave me the password, but I lost it and now I can't use the software that he gave me and I can't get ahold of him since he never gave me a number or E-mail. What I'm wondering is if there is a way around this problem.

There are some password recovery freewares you can try out. Whether any of those will work with that particular program is another matter altogether. Generally those are used for password protected files and Windows login.
