Recovery DVD question

When I got my laptop it had a program to burn my own recovery DVDs (which I did) I need to boot off of them now, but I'm not sure how.

Also, my Vista is saved to partition C and I have a bunch of programs and files in the data partition G. If I do a windows recovery will it only affect the C partition or will I lose everything?

If you do a recovery, it would erase everything on C: except if you have a partition. That why when you create a partition the computer ask or assign a letter for that partition. So when you do a recovery it will recognize the G: partition but would not touch it. Its looking for C: partition only by default.
