Recovery of XP on laptop

Hi there I recently attempted to reinstall windows on my EEE pc, but during the install it frequently said that some installation files were missing. And now that the installation is finished it just goes to blue-screen.

I would assume that there's an issue with the copy of XP on the disk, but I've installed it in the past with no problems. What could be the cause of these 'missing files'?

thanks

Were you getting any errors saying that certain files couldn't be copied over? If so, thats a symptom of bad memory. Would suggest using a memtest cd to test the memory.

Are you talking about RAM or HD memory? I just realized that one of my partitions was nearly completely full, could that be the issue? I assumed it would format the disk before the fresh install...or that at least I would get the option to...it obviously didn't though as I can still use the previous XP install

great...I just used a partition manager to format the partition which *didn't* have the OS installed in it, with the aim of reinstalling XP on it while keeping the previous install as a fall-back on the other partition...and at 99% it said it couldn't complete the format as it was being used by windows (god knows how), and now when I try to boot up it says 'Error loading operating system'...

What do I do now? I have no OS to run the partition software from, and there's no option on the bios setup utility for formatting or installing an OS...\

Also, when I try to boot from the CD it says "Reboot and insert proper boot device"....

Ram. Hard drives don't have memory, they have space. You have probably done something wrong when formatting. You may have deleted your boot files. You will have to use a XP install cd to repair the boot file or see if you can boot into recovery partition.

How can I run the CD without the OS? Apparently there's no recovery mode on this particular model, (EEE pc 1000H) so I can't use that to reset it back to factory (post OS install)
