recovery question

ok well im going to re install windows and i red in the windows packet that theres a way i can save some of the files from my computer so that when i re instal it i can get them back. i have musics files and bf2 files and i want to save them to someplace were i can get them back. i wanted to kinda restart fresh with my computer b/c i have some viruses and stuff i cant seem to get rid of.i ran the files and settings transfer wizard but i dont understand it. can you guys help me?

When you reinstall windows you can choose to either format or write over. When you write over, it means that you will ignore all the files but reinstall a fresh copy of windows, there will be a folder with everything that was on your computer before you installed.

Or you could download a program to make a partition of your hardrive and store the files you want on there, and when it comes time to reinstall you will be able to format the hard drive and what you partitioned will not be touched.

ok well i dont know what happened but there some sort of spyware on my computer that wont let me open like aim and stuff and when i click it a browers blank browser window comes up that has like adware as the title. so.... if put the windows disk in and then restart it i can choose the folders i want to keep and then it will reformat the rest? what if the folder i choose has the spyware in it? im going to try to reformat it tonight because i cannot go without my computer.

what would the folder be called ?

ok well i reformatted last night and everything seemed to work fine..... i found where my old files are but im running a wireless router to my other computer downstairs and when i reinstalled the windows i couldnt connect to the internet. what could be rong. do i have to like install a wireless network connection driver or something?

also i just went in my room and on my computer screen says in like a command thing that a disk read error has occured...press ctrl+alt+del to restart but when i restart it loads and the same screen comes up. just before i was on my desktop and then i come in here to type this and when i went back in it sayd that

I would say so, you might want to try a network setup wizard.

Your hard drive could have some problems, try putting in the XP cd and goto recovery console, then type chkdsk and search for errors on the hard drive.
