Red lines across monitor.

So I just wake up, walk to my computer and turn it on. Immediately I see red lines across the motherboard start-up screen (whatever it's called) and then in grub, same thing, same thing in windows. Windows won't even boot. It gets to the "starting windows" part but then the screen just goes black. I'm running the windows start-up repair now.

Now, my Mobo is an EVGA 680i and it has a 2 handy 8-segment displays on the inside of the case for error codes. It shows 6F, I looked it up and 6F's error is: "FDD install || Install FDD and setup BIOS data area parameters"

I don't even have a floppy drive! So, that tells me nothing. I was wondering if anyone else experienced this. So far my suspicion is the graphics card but why would Windows not boot? Anyone see of hear of this happening?

Intel C2Q Q6600 @2.4GHz
EVGA 680i Mobo
EVGA Geforce 8800GTX
4GB Corsair RAM
2x 500GB HDDs
Corsair 750W

Actually, yesterday my display drivers crashed about 3 times. And now if I wait long enough at the black screen, a blue screen appears. I'm going to try and write down what it says.

Okay, now the lines went away and it booted normally and I got into windows. What the **** happened?

They're back. The display driver crashed twice in 2 minutes so I restarted into safe mode and installed old drivers. The red lines are still there. I need help.


So to test my computer, I grabbed an 8600 from another computer, put it into my computer and bam everything works. Just to be doubly sure, I put the "broken 8800" into my other computer. And it worked too! No red lines. So now i'm like 10x as confused as I was before.


Okay, here's the story, I put the 8800 GTX back in and everything worked, for about 3 hours. Now the red lines are back. The red lines appear in BIOS, but my BIOs has two "pages" it goes through. On the second page, no red lines but some of the characters are all screwed up. Some letters and numbers look alien. Then the lines appear in grub again. Then in windows. Windows crashes before it gets to the login screen. I have reseated the card and downgraded the video card drivers. I also ran Memtest86+ with no errors.


Sorry, this is copy-pasted from another forum where i'm asking the same question. Anyways, I need help. D:

Sounds like a GPU issue to me, quite possibly an issue with the memory on the GPU. I would suggest RMAing the gpu with EVGA..their support is top notch.
 
Is there anyway to roll back drivers? I think the cause might be the drivers but I can't find a way to downgrade them. Is there a proper way or do i just install the old ones on top?

I finally read the BSOD dump file and the error was: VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE (116). All that means is that the driver stopped working and windows couldn't restore it.

Its not drivers, i can guarantee that to you as you were having the issue in BIOS screens.

If you have warranty, RMA the card and sell it, better than having a non working card sitting around.

My card got so hot once that the glue on the warranty sticker like melted off. Yeah, I had overheating problems before.

The brand is XFX for my new 5770 XXX edition. It's really nice, runs cool too. I would've gotten a 4870 but Tigerdirect didn't have any and I wanted to get this over with quick.
