Reformat C: Drive and install MS XP

My computer is a few years old and I am having a few problems with it crashing and blue screening when I do certain things, but generally it works fine. About 6 months ago the mother board crashed and I purchased and installed a new one, but the same problems remained.

The place that sold me the mother board looked at the computer and said he would strongly recommend that I reformatted the C: drive, which would most likely solve my problems, which I now intend to do.

I am reasonably computer literate, but would like to research the issue before I reformat. Is there any things I need to be aware of, or is there any web site that would give good hints about any problems.

If you replaced one or two boards and the next going in runs strong and is the exact same make and model you may not even have to worry about reformatting but simply seeing a good reinstall of Windows preserving the current data on the drive.

The problems with BSODs may have nothing to with the drive but memory faults or a need to update certain drivers. The information seen on any blue screen can often point to the actual problem.

Reformatting the present primary or even going as far as deleting to see a brand new one created would be a move after you backup anything you want from the drive first.

Look up all your drivers first, download them and save them. All the data you want to save Photos/anything really. Burn it all to a CD/DVD. Make sure you have all the CDs for the programs you have.

If its XP, follow this. Use NTFS
