Reformating

I'm pretty sure of the answer, but I thought I would ask some people who know better. :). Anyways.. the question is how can I refomat and save some downloaded files/music.wavs/MP3/ to spare the time of either FINDING them again or downloading some thing that take days. I run on a DSL connection, networked to 3 other computers and on 300 something ram, yet I continue to play through World of Warcraft and many other "Must meet this requirement" game, which I do not meet, so I wish to reformat and start from scratch. How can I save these files and immediatley get them back when I am done reformatting?

Best and easiest way would be to burn them to a CD/DVD. If you don't have a CD burner I suggest you pick one up. They are dirt cheap and can be so helpful when you need to back stuff up in a hurry.

The other option would be to put that HDD into another computer as a slave and just transfer the files over. Put it back in the first computer and reformat and re-install windows. Take it out again, turn it back into a slave, and copy the files back over from the second computer. Takes a long time and is usually only done if windows won't even load.

(You could also do a repair install of windows)

if you format your harddrive, you wont have anything on it, so therefore you couldnt FIND them. keep in mind that if you dont have the windows xp disc, you will not have an os once you reformat.

an option would be to save all your stuff on one of the other networked compuers. but dont forget that you will need an os.

reformatting will not boost your prefromance much at all if any unless you have some viruses, so formatting may not be the way to go.
 
I have done this many times before and I have noticed greater preformance. What's an OS?- And how will I send it to the other computer? Just using MSN or AIM?

Edit- The other times I have done this I have not saved anything.

microsoft windows is an example of an operating system.

you can use shared folders if i am not mistaken.
 
Oh yes, sorry not too computer smart with OS being a shortcut for Operating System. *Slaps himself* Anyways, shared folder.. yes I have been told about that and tried it, but either its the wrong one, or it just wont work.
 
make sure file sharing is enabled.

if you have windows xp, there should be a hand under your shared folders.
