reformating....

I Recently purchaseda family computer but now that i have an oppurtunity to do some sidework (autocad) i want to completely reformat my pc what would be the best way to do this i would assume through the hp recovery consoleas i don;t really want to go out and by xp pro
any help would be appreciated

1st you have 2 format, delete everything on the hd, could you make this hd a slave? if soo, you can right click the hd you want 2 format, in my computer, and click format.

Make sure the bios is set to boot from cd 1st. Put xp cd or what ever os disk you have in cd reader, reboot. When it boots tell it to boot from the cd. When it asks tell it you want a new install then it will ask you how you want to format and go from there.
