Reformatting Computer

Hey guys. I am fixing my gf's computer which is going to require a system reformat. Now, I had an old 200 gig harddrive laying around and put all the files she wanted to keep onto it, however, I noticed when I attached it to the dell, that I had to format the harddrives using the utility disk. Now what I am afraid of, is when I reformat the Dell, will it recognize the harddrive with the saved files, or will it ask to format again, therefore losing all the information?

If you could get back to me as soon as possible that would be great, would love to get this thing done. Thanks!

well you could either try using the hard drive that had your OS installed on it, and try to recognise the 200gb hdd afterwards...or either you could havee created a partition on the 200gb hdd before you created the backup, just incase you have to install an OS on it.

Hmm, i'm not quite understanding what you are saying. Can anyone clearify? Will the reformatted windows HDD be able to recognize a slave HDD with files that I need?
